This new work by Stefano Biancu results in part from a research internship that the Author did at CITER. The question of authority is analyzed, a classic theme of the philosophies of education, law and politics. Authority is what generates freedom and humanity: this is the conclusion reached after a century of studies on the subject, but it is also the fundamental intuition of a peculiar Italian philosophy of authority which, initiated by Vico in the 18th century, has resurfaced significant in the 20th century and opens future perspectives in view of an anthropology and an ethics of authority.
