Thematic Seminar IV: Experiences of the Divine and Christian Faith

4.5 ECTs / Semester / Português

The main objective of this seminar is to deepen spiritual theology by correcting the domination of a deductive dogmatic rationality of modern theology, on the basis of mutual corelation between these two branches of theology. In this sense, the seminar will address the theme of God's experience in the light of Christian faith, presupposing and valuing the experiential dimension of faith, seeking mainly to provide students with conceptual tools, clarifying the notion of experience, distinguishing and relating human experience, religious experience, experience of God and experience of God in the light of the Christian faith, questioning their places, ways and criteria.

The secondary objective, no less important, concerns the exercise of reading texts by theological authors from the point of view of the subject inseparably rational and spiritual. This exercise aims to cultivate the analysis of texts, critical reading and the hermeneutical capacity to cross the world of the text with the world of the subject, or of a group of readers who can share on the experience of God in the light of the faith of the Church, and their personal and ecclesial experience.
